121st MOA Annual Business Meeting Information


Pursuant to the bylaws (Article VII) of the MOA, the Board of Trustees has set Thursday, June 15, 2017, 1:00-4:00 PM as the date and time for the 121st Annual Meeting at the DeVos Place/Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Grand Rapids.


Pursuant to the guideline procedures for nominations of office, resolutions and bylaws, the following committees have been appointed by MOA President Dr. Matthew A. Johnson.

We will be joined by by American Optometric Association Secretary-Treasurer and MOA Associate member, Barbara L. Horn, O.D. to give MOA members a report from the AOA.

Barbara L. Horn, O.D., was elected as a trustee to the American Optometric Association Board of in June 2011 and elected Secretary-Treasurer at the 119th Annual AOA Congress & 44th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting® in July 2016.

As a member of the AOA Board, Dr. Horn is a member of the Council on Research, the Investment Committee, the Executive Committee and the 401(k) Committee. Dr. Horn also Chairs both the Finance Committee and the Constitution and Bylaws Committee and serves as the liaison representative to Midwestern University's Arizona College of Optometry as well as the states of Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Utah, and Washington.     

Prior to her election to the Board, Dr. Horn served the AOA by volunteering her time as chair of the Clinical & Practice Advancement Executive Committee, Medical Eye Care Committee, and Membership Group.  She has also participated in numerous other committees and project teams including the Program Planning Committee, Public Health Disease Prevention Committee, and the Needs/Technology Project Team.  

Dr. Horn is a graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University and a past president of the Michigan Optometric Association (MOA). Dr. Horn is currently a member of the South Carolina Optometric Association and an associate member of the Michigan Optometric Association.   

In 2011, she was the MOA's Optometrist of the Year.  Dr. Horn also received the AOA's Young Optometrist of the Year award in 2006 and the MOA's Young Optometrist of the Year award in 2005.

Dr. Horn is in a group private practice, Vaught Eye Associates, in Conway, South Carolina.  She has two children with her husband, Michael Weisgerber, O.D., Brooke and Mick and two step children, Alexa and Drew.
