Message from the President

Matthew A Johnson OD FAAOThank you for your interest in the Michigan Optometric Association.  The MOA is proud to be “the recognized authority for vision and primary eye care in Michigan.”  I am the current president of this outstanding organization, and am thankful for the ability to work with many great individuals associated with the MOA.  Through its members and volunteer structure, we successfully advocate for our patients to receive more comprehensive eye care in Michigan.  The MOA proudly advocates for optometrists to ensure that they can provide the eye care needs that they were trained to do.  If you aren’t a member, I strongly encourage to you to join this forward-thinking organization.

Healthcare is becoming more collaborative, and the MOA is working to strengthen bonds with other healthcare professions to provide a more integrative approach to care. The MOA changed leadership with a new Executive Director in the summer of 2016.  We want to extend a warm welcome to Jeff Towns as he leads the MOA into the future. I want to also take the opportunity to thank the staff of the MOA.  Without them, we would not be able to do most of our endeavors.

It will be my personal challenge to engage more with members to create a truly dynamic organization that further boosts the status of optometry in Michigan.  Finally, I want to continue to engage industry to foster relationships that ultimately benefit our patients.  It has never been a more exciting time to be a member of the MOA, and I am both humbled and honored to lead over the next year.

Matthew A Johnson Od Faao
